June 2008 - Walk Of The Month

Images around Dorset June 2008

I’ve included a few snaps of various places around the Dorset coast. We managed a few meals out and about as well and can recommend the following if you are in the area.

The fish and chip shop in Charmouth – fish cooked to order, so had to wait a little while but it was delicious

Abbots House in Charmouth – Newly opened and tastefully decorated. This is a restaurant with rooms. The rooms looked great, but were quite expensive. The restaurant has a set menu for the day at £27.50 – very nice food in good surroundings. I only hope the owner is a bit more chatty in future!

The Olive Tree in Bridport – I had meant to eat in the Bull as it had a good review in the Times. But when we went in the place was deserted and the young waiter showed a complete lack of regard for his customers. Eventually we were seated but when the menu arrived haphazardly, we decided that it didn’t warrant the prices they were charging so we got up and left. Across the road was The Olive Tree (another newly opened) which was very busy, but they managed to squeeze us in. We had a very good meal – pizzas & pastas etc.

River Cottage Store in Axminster – a very different dining experience. When we arrived in Axminster I had no idea that this was a restaurant. It even looked closed, until we saw some people enter. So we followed them through the store and into a very industrial looking shed. You have to pick a table, then choose what you want from a blackboard menu – usually three choices of each course, and finally order from the counter\bar. It had a great atmosphere with a real odd mix, but the food was brilliant, especially the desert which was divine. All served up by Mrs Overall..

Now here are some pictures of a few places and some flora and fauna:-

And that’s all folks. A lovely relaxing week in an old fashioned type of place. Don’t expect the bright lights down in Charmouth, but fish and chips on the beach…..ooooooooh yes. Let me know if you can identify the plants on this site, because I can’t.
